Thanks, Ray. How much does an unmauled 5th edition weigh?

Well since we’re going North I guess I can live with it until next year when we’re going South. Yeah I’m going to leave about half the 4th edition at home…hello Mr Boxcutter. I’m also highlighting place names for easier navigation information. The book is a little heavy on the flora descriptions…and this from a guy who wouldn’t consider a trip into the Sierras without Law’s Field Guide.
All that aside, I’ve gleaned a lot of info from the 4th edition and recommend the 5th sight unseen to anyone considering the JMT journey.
    Cheers, jc

My 5th edition is due to arrive today. I’ll weigh it. The 4th was over 12 oz which is way to heavy for me (trying to go under 10lbs base weight). Thanks for the right up ray!

I carried the previous edition at all times on the trail on my Kindle in my front pocket. In fact I had a hundred pounds of books and paperwork in that 6 oz device!

5th Ed weighs in at 12.3 oz unmutilated. 4th ed was slightly more at 12.5 oz. Now I better get reading!

I think this will be an improvement over the last book. I have that and didn’t care for the thickness of it. I also like that it will be modernized as well.

Sounds great! I mostly buy Kindle editions, so I hope that version comes out soon. I’m driving Lizzy and her husband in June and I hope I can have read her book before that . ..

Took a little convincing but I just ordered the 5th edition from Amazon. With prime shipping and my “settlement” discount it was 11.99.
