I was attacked by a grouse once. We were mountain biking on the backside of Alpine Meadows when a grouse came running toward me. I didn’t think much of it, other than I wanted to see how close she would get. When she started pecking at my ankles, I hopped on my bike and pedaled as as fast as I could with her pecking away, running along side of me. I can only guess that I was near her nest.
    Thanks for the post!

Inga that reminds me of the scene from Cold Mountain where the woman was terrified of the aggressive rooster. Another woman came on the scene, immediately grabbed it, broke its neck and cooked it for dinner!

I’ve noticed those sooty grouse just before Sunrise HSC (SOBO). They seem to like it there. They seem to have no fear of us. All I can say to them is don’t move to the National Forest.

I’ve been trying to ID a bird I saw at Upper Lady Lake in AAW last week. Thanks to this page I’m certain it was an American Dipper.
